Billy Ray Smith

Billy Ray Smith brings more than 30 years of executive leadership experience in the oilfield services, industrial manufacturing, and mining industries. Raised in the Permian Basin, where his family still resides, Smith has a deep personal connection to the energy industry and the communities it serves. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for driving profitable growth, strengthening customer relationships, and leading organizations through periods of transformation while developing high-performing teams committed to operational excellence.

Before joining Smart Chemical Services as Chief Executive Officer, Smith helped lead the successful turnaround of Superior Silica Sands, guiding the company from bankruptcy to record financial performance and long-term profitability. Earlier in his career, he held executive positions supporting the North American energy and mining industries, building extensive experience in operations, supply chain, and commercial leadership. His collaborative leadership style, strategic vision, and customer-first mindset have made him a respected leader across the energy industry.

Stefan Hochegger

Stefan Hochegger brings more than a decade of finance and operations leadership across the energy, industrial, and manufacturing sectors, with experience spanning three continents. A grounded, purpose- driven leader, he delivers results through people, analytics, and disciplined execution, building high-performing teams and a reputation for operational transformation, margin expansion, and close partnership with boards, lenders, and private equity sponsors.

Before joining Smart Chemical Services as Chief Financial Officer, Hochegger joined Superior Silica Sands after its bankruptcy and played a central role in the turnaround and value-creation program, running the financial execution of its December 2025 all-stock sale to Iron Oak Energy Solutions. Earlier, he spent nine years at HOERBIGER, a global oil & gas and industrial manufacturer, in senior operations and supply chain roles across Austria, India, and the United States. Known for optimizing end-to-end processes, breaking down silos, and applying value-stream thinking, he aligns people, systems, and investments behind common goals.

John Byars

John Byars serves as the Vice President of Business Development and Marketing at Smart Chemical Services, bringing more than 26 years of distinguished energy sector leadership across upstream oil and gas, chemical solutions, completions, and reservoir technologies. Recognized for his strategic commercialization expertise, John has a proven track record of scaling private equity-backed portfolios and driving massive revenue growth for both major operators and service companies. Over a diverse career, his unique craft has been shaped by executive roles—including Vice President at Obsidian Chemical and Vice President of Engineering at Point Energy Partners—as well as progressive technical leadership at NexTier Energy and Schlumberger. His profound legacy spans mastering high-rate completions, data-driven SaaS analytics, multibillion-dollar A&D advisory, and commercializing high-performance chemical formulations tailored to basin-specific challenges. At Smart Chemical Services, John utilizes this vast reservoir of data-driven and subsurface intelligence to spearhead our commercial strategy and market expansion, aligning custom chemistry with field operations to systematically minimize total cost of ownership and optimize production for our partners.

Cole Wadsworth

Cole Wadsworth serves as the Vice President of EHS and Fleet Compliance at Smart Chemical Services, bringing more than 20 years of results-driven leadership across safety, environmental, and transportation compliance frameworks. Joined the enterprise in 2018, Cole has championed our proactive safety culture and regulatory adherence through strategic corporate training, rigorous site-focused inspections, and cross-functional communication. His extensive career is defined by high-impact milestones, including serving as Senior Safety Director at Approach Resources—where he engineered a high-performing safety program that reduced total recordable injury rates from 8.2 to 0.0 within his first year—and as DOT Manager for Multi-Chem Group, where he oversaw fleet and transportation compliance across more than 60 facilities throughout the United States and Canada. Cole’s unique craft lies in his forwardthinking approach to risk mitigation and absolute collaboration across all organizational tiers. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science from Texas A&M University and a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Angelo State University, leveraging his deep foundational background to ensure our chemical logistics and direct-to-wellbore delivery fleets operate under the highest standards of safety and operational integrity.

Jerry Don Sweatt brings more than 35 years of elite, field-shaping expertise to Smart Chemical Services as Vice President of Product Development & Technology. A natural talent whose extraordinary craft was forged from the ground up, Jerry Don began his career as a frontline field technician at UniChem, rising through the ranks to Regional Manager before taking on monumental leadership roles across the industry. As the Director of Completions Technology at Multi-Chem, he systematically built and scaled the enterprise’s foundational operations across both the Barnett Shale and Marcellus Shale sectors—spearheading the strategic expansions that ultimately transformed Multi-Chem into an industry powerhouse. Over his distinguished career, which includes executive tenure as Vice President of Completions at X-Chem and President & COO of Valhalla Consulting Services, he has earned a reputation as an intuitive chemical architect with a remarkable ability to engineer precise solutions for virtually any downhole or production challenge.
